The Perfect Kylie Jenner Nude Lip Combo

Sunday 26 April 2015

Finding the perfect dark nude combo is a challenge almost every girl faces. Kylie Jenner seems to have nailed it, but for us pale skinned girls it’s slightly more difficult.

I got my hands on the Mac lipstick Blankety in December and have been searching for the perfect lip liner to match. Recently I decided to just give it a go and pick one -  so I purchased the Mac lip liner in Subculture.

I was slightly hesitant at first but these two products paired together are a great match for a dark nude lip. This pairing suits my skin tone perfectly and doesn’t make me look like I rubbed foundation on my lips like some nudes tend to do.

Blankety is an amplified crème in formulation. It is smooth, creamy and easy to apply, definitely one of my favourite formulas! The formula is slightly thick however doesn’t dry out the lips and instead provides an opaque semi-matte finish.

I absolutely adore this combination and will continue to wear it year round. If you’re new to Mac lipsticks or simply looking for the perfect dark nude combo for pale skin, you should definitely give these a try.

A Change in Season: Outfit Inspiration

Wednesday 22 April 2015

It’s finally starting to feel like Autumn here in Australia. The days have been getting shorter and the nights cooler. My favourite thing about a change in season is change in style so I’m very excited to show you what I have been wearing.

I’ve had most of these items in my closest for a while now; they really all are staple pieces in my eyes.

I wore my Betts for Her boots into the ground last winter and they are honestly so comfortable. They have the perfect size heel that makes it easy for them to be transitioned from a work to weekend outfit.

I don’t spend a lot of money on white clothes, as I can’t seem to keep them in good enough condition. My striped tee was only around $12 from Myer’s Miss Shop and it fits perfectly.

My shorts were actually from a little store called STRUTT at Brisbane’s Direct Factory Outlet. They are my go to pair of high-waisted black shorts as they fit perfectly.  I often struggle with shorts not being tight enough around the waist and then clinging to my thighs so these were an absolute find!

Finally, the piece that pulls together the outfit is my gorgeous denim jacket from Forever New. It was slightly pricey as I believe it cost around $80 but much like my boots I get so much wear out of it and couldn’t be happier with it.

Review: Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for Body and Face

Saturday 18 April 2015

I walked into Mecca Maxima the other day and was browsing the new Urban Decay stand. As a highlight lover I am always drawn towards anything shimmery so I immediately swatched the Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder in Luminous. I literally stopped in my tracks and said, “Why haven’t I ever heard about this?”

As said by Urban Decay, “Our smooth, silky powder contains a sophisticated, microfine shimmer. Dust it on wherever you want to create an instant Naked glow!”

I purchased the powder in the shade Luminous, a gorgeous champagne sparkle, perfect for my fair complexion. However, it also comes in the shade Aura, which has a pink and gold undertone that would be more suited towards tanner skin tones. I have been using this product everyday as a highlighter for my cheekbones, and I’m absolutely in love with it. I also love brushing it over my eyelids and putting a little bronzer in the crease, for a quick but beautiful daytime eye.

Now don’t get me wrong, it is very glittery and may intimidate some, but used with a light hand provides the most gorgeous shimmer. I intend to dust the powder over my décolletage on nights out to add an overall gorgeous glow.

After I swatched it I knew instantly I was going to purchase it, but couldn’t help but be disappointed in the packaging. It includes a mirror and a small brush, which makes it quite bulky. I am never one to use brushes provided with products so it seems like a waste of space and makes travelling with the powder difficult.  Despite the packaging I absolutely adore this product and highly recommend any highlight lovers to check it out!

What's in my Make-Up Bag?

Thursday 16 April 2015

Today I thought I’d share with you what’s in my makeup bag. This is typically what I take with me when staying somewhere overnight.

First things first, I am in love with my Ted Baker wash bag. I have the small wash bag from last season and I can’t wait to get my hands on a large one to use for my skincare products when travelling.  These wash bags are perfect for beauty products as the surface cleans off easily and the bag remains looking cute.  They are on the slightly expensive side, but if you’re always out and about they are definitely worth the money.

My biggest tip when packing your make-up bag is to find multi-use products. The NARSissist cheek palette is an absolute favourite of mine as it contains the Devotee Highlighter, Orgasm Blush and Laguna bronzer all in one.

I’ve thrown in one of my Too Faced palettes, ‘Boudoir Eyes’. This palette is perfect for travel because it is small and contains shades that can be used during the day and at night. I also try to pack sample size products when I can; in this instance I’ve packed my Benefit’s Porefessional sample.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Comparison: Original vs Semi Sweet

Saturday 11 April 2015

Too Faced has been a brand that I gravitate towards when purchasing eyeshadows for years. I’ve had the original Chocolate Bar Palette for quite some time now and I recently managed to get my hands on the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar.

CHOCOLATE BAR

The original Too Faced Chocolate Bar is a predominately warm-toned eyeshadow palette that resembles… and smells like, a chocolate bar. The palette contains 16 pigmented, soft, blendable shades that can be used during the day or night.

Overall, the formulation of the shadows is creamy and blendable. The lighter shades are really pigmented which is something I always test first when buying a new product. However, this also makes the lighter shades slightly more powdery than the rest.

I have applied these shadows with my fingers and a brush and both techniques work fabulously. To get the best results I generally lean towards using a brush for the darker shades and my finger for the lighter shades.

The one thing that really bugs me about this palette is that the eyeshadows names are not included on the packaging. Instead, they have included a clear plastic sheet detailing the names – that frankly will just get lost in any beauty lovers collection.

SEMI-SWEET CHOCOLATE BAR

The Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette is the newer, darker version of the original Chocolate Bar Palette. The colours are all slightly warmer and there is a great range of both matte and shimmer shadows.

This palette is much like the first in formulation, design and the delicious smell. However, this time they included the names of each shadow on the packaging – much to my delight.

With this palette I find myself gravitating towards shades like Pink Sugar, Butter Pecan, Rum Raisin and Nougat. I don’t think I will ever use Blueberry Swirl and I believe the palette could definitely do without it.

Both palettes are absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth the price, which do you prefer?

Skincare Routine

Saturday 4 April 2015

I find it essential to maintain an effective skincare routine throughout the year, most importantly during autumn and winter months. Our skin starts to dry out and we tend to apply our make-up with a heavier hand. Today I thought I would share my autumn/winter skincare routine, featuring some of my recent Kiehls discoveries.

MORNING

To start my morning off I always wash my face with cold water, towel dry and then liberally apply Olay's moisturising cream for sensitive skin. This has been a beauty favourite of mine for around three years now, it is rich and creamy but doesn’t leave your face feeling sticky. I’m yet to find something else of such high quality in the same price range.

EVENING

To start my nighttime routine I remove my make-up with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and a cotton pad. I previously used Biodermas Solution Micellaire however I found it only worked marginally better and was three times the price. Once all my make-up is removed I go in with my Clarisonic and Kiehls Ultra Facial Cleanser and scrub all the excess make-up and oil off my skin. These two products have changed my skin dramatically, I no longer have large break-outs and I am relatively spot free. Once clean, I use my Clinique clarifying lotion with a cotton pad and swipe it over my t-zone. Finally, I apply Kiehls Midnight Recovery Serum, my Holy Grail skincare product; if you have dry skin like I do this product is worth every penny.

Have you tried any of the products mentioned?
